About Us

The Romeoville Area Historical Society (RAHS) was the inspiration of Joyce Kinder and Mark Frost. Chartered on October 23, 1980, it is dedicated to recording and preserving the village’s history. The Historical Society believes in combining learning with companionship. It remains active at local events, including Founder’s Day and local programs. The Historical Society has a large collection of obituaries and printed news articles of the businesses, families, organizations, and schools of the local area. This includes information about the Illinois & Michigan Canal and The Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal; Hampton Park; the Valley View School District’s All Year Round School Program; and documents and artifacts of early farming families and local history. The opening of its new stand-alone museum will allow better access to view and study artifacts that illustrate Romeoville’s history. The Romeoville Area Historical Society invites the community to stop by and learn a new tidbit (or two) about our home.
