Hassert

The Hassert family settled in DuPage Township in the 1860s. The Hassert family continued to be part of Romeoville’s modern development as well. Brothers George, Howard, and Roy Hassert were all involved in public service. George Hassert was on the Valley View School District. Howard Hassert was an active participant in consolidating the one-room schools and was a member of the first Valley View School Board. Roy Hassert was a director of the one-room Sprague School, a DuPage Township supervisor, and a 30-year chair of the Will County Board. Involvement was not limited to the men of the family. Dorothy Hassert was the chairman of the homeroom mothers in North View, Park View, and West View Schools in the early years of the Valley View School District. Howard and Dorothy were also two of the founders of the Romeoville Area Historical Society.
