Our Museum

Our museum in the past has been located in a home, library, or municipal building. While in these locations, we had little visibility, so the public had a hard time finding us. With our new museum, we are located by Route 53 (Independence Blvd.), which gives us much better visibility. Also, our own stand-alone building, is more accessible to the public.

We have a large collection of obituaries and printed articles of the businesses, families, organizations, and schools which are helpful for those looking for the genealogy or history of the local area. Among our many artifacts are a street map listing the names of the first homeowners in Hampton Park; detailed records and documents of Valley View School District’s All Year Round School Program which was an innovation in education studied by schools across the nation; James P. Sczepaniakís voluminous collection of local history; documents and artifacts of our early farming families; and documents and books about the Illinois & Michigan Canal and The Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal.

The Romeoville Area Historical Society presents programs open to the public about our local history. We also offer programs to assist teachers and scout leaders in teaching our local history. As part of our helping to bring local history to life, we are pleased to announce that the new Thomas Toyota dealership on Weber Road in Romeoville will be using RAHS-provided photographs in their showroom.

Bricks purchased as part of our fund-raising campaign will be prominently displayed near the front entrance to our museum. If a person or business wants their brick displayed at the time of our grand opening, they should place their order with us by mid-August. Otherwise, they will be displayed latter in the year or next year.
