Wagner

Anton and Maria Wagner emigrated from Prussia to the United States in around 1850. They eventually moved to Chicago. Anton and Maria had three children. Their two girls, Elizabeth and Mary, lived in Romeoville. Elizabeth married into the Vogt family (See Vogt). Anton and Maria’s son, Charles, and his bride Anne, were married in 1875 and moved to Romeoville around 1883. They lived on the Island and had 10 children. Charles made his living as a wagon and wheel maker, also using the wagons he made to deliver goods (such as coal) to local residents. Joseph Wagner was the oldest son of Charles and Anne. He served the village as clerk in 1901 and in 1912-1913. Joseph was instrumental in designing the Romeoville Village Seal.
